MOVEMENT ANALYSIS PROJECT
KINESIOLOGY
A comprehensive analysis of the muscles, joints, and levers involved in a sport-specific movement.
This project involved a complete breakdown of the question mark kick: muscle and joint actions, levers, Newton’s laws, planes of motion, and the detailed analysis of the 5 phases of movement.
Not only did I realize in completing this project that knowing muscles and joints important for working in a fitness setting, but having an understanding for the physics and biomechanical principles involved in a movement is a skill in itself. Knowing how the body moves with and against gravity can give you an edge in analyzing movement, finding errors and creating efficiency for every individual.
One of the resources I used in completing this project was VisibleBody. It provided a very detailed and advanced look at the human body that helped me in visualizing movements and joint actions—I still use this app for continuing my own learning and would highly recommend it for people looking to improve their own or others’ understanding of kinesiology.
